For my A2 Media Coursework I have been asked to create a film trailer, a poster and a magazine based on the genre of horror. To do this my partner and I will have to focus on the conventions and techniques used so that we are able to make it clear to our audience of the horror genre.
I will be working alongside a classmate to produce a trailer to a film. I have decided I am going to be working with Charlotte Magill. This is because in our previous AS Media Coursework we worked well together and successfully produced a good opening scene to a horror.
In this A2 coursework we will also be designing and producing a magazine cover and a poster relating to our film. Therefore I will be carrying out research into film posters and magazines and identify what makes an effective film poster and what makes an effective magazine prior to designing our own. We anticipate that this research will lead us on the path to creating both an effective magazine and a good quality film poster relating to and advertising our film.
I will then research into trailers to give me an insight into the techniques that are used and to enable me to establish what makes a horror trailer effective. Hopefully this research will influence us and give us some inspiration for our own horror trailer. As part of the research i will view numerous trailers from both our chosen genre of horror and from other genres such as rom com. I will anaylse them in terms of camera shots, angles and movements, mise en scene and view what conventions have been used. In addition to the viewing and analysis of trailers i will map out what the conventions of a horror film are to give me an idea of what conventions we could portray in our trailer.
More over, we intend to carry out research into target audience and produce a questionnaire to enable us to select a target audience for our film based on our own perceptions, our research and the feedback from our questionnaires.
I will then begin planning my own trailer subsequent to my research. As a group we intend to have come up with our own story line by this point and will then be able to identify conventions of our horror, mise en scene including props to be used, characters, setting, lighing as well as camera angle, shot and movement. We will create a story board consisting of all the shots that will make up our trailer. We will be able to state who our target audience will be and why and how our film will relate to our particular chosen target audience. In addition to this we will create our own magazine cover for our film and a film poster.
